Happiness and hurt,
I always deserved them myself,
and accepted either of which
like the last trace of carbohydrate
in a thrown away piece of bread,
thankfully eaten by the orphaned dog.
Thats why when you went
away after putting up with
me for longer than necessary,
I walked out in the rain bare footed,
feeling the warmth of the asphalt
slowly melting under me,
washing away the pain
without remorse, and to
say 'Thank you God,
for bringing me till here', because
however short lived, the joy
by far outlived the hurt.
